After a short vacation Ive finished the 7 Chaos Emeralds today. I really liked how the colors came out in the end.
I decided to give the deep blue one a shot of purple, so it looks more like a purpleblue instead of ultramarine blue.
At first I wanted to make the Emeralds from Sonic 2, cause thats my favourite Sonic game. But for whatever reason Sega decided to make them look really different in terms of colors and shape than in the other Sonic Games (except Sonic 1 + 3 and the MS/GG titles)
The shape is a hexagon this time, instead of octagon from the first game. This makes the whole Emerald a completely different one, since the octagonal shape could simply be explained that its the top view on the famous diamond shaped Emerald, instead of the sideview we always had later.
But the hexagon shape makes it more like a Rupee from Zelda. Personally Ive always liked this shape more, because it makes the Emerald look and feel more compact and chunky and thus more heavy and instead if the spiky diamond shape.
Also the colors are unique to them. Its probably the only Sonic Game where you can find a bright rose/pink emerald + a deep purple one, whereas you wont find the deep blue emerald instead. Also I cant loose the feeling that theres a drop of pink in the red emerald. Overall the colors of the Chaos Emeralds in Sonic2 are much more bright than in Sonic 3 for example, where they turn to very deep and dark moody colors.
I always liked the colors of the Emeralds from Sonic2, cause for me they stand or work perfectly with this much more cheerfull sequel (I somewhat consider Sonic 1 on Genesis a Sonic game with a darkish atmosphere).
But since I know that you all most likely prefer or even only know the normal Chaos Emerald colors and shape, I went with these ^^
